Everyone enjoys eating cold, sweet muskmelon, also known as Kharbooja, in summer, but choosing the right one at the market can be tricky. Often, people end up buying melons that are bland and tasteless. If you struggle with selecting a sweet melon, these easy tips will help.

Speaking to Local18, a fruit seller from Rampur explained that a melon’s colour and fragrance can indicate its sweetness. First, pay attention to the melon’s colour and variety.

A special variety called Lal Pari, officially known as Kajri, is the sweetest. It has a light red hue with green stripes and is known for its rich taste and sweetness. However, beware of imitations sold in the market, which tend to be bland.

You can also check for sweetness by smelling the melon. A mild, sweet aroma suggests a sweet melon. However, if there is no fragrance, the melon may lack flavour.

Another method is to gently press the melon. If it feels slightly soft, it is well-ripened and will likely be sweet. To get a pulpy muskmelon, choose one with thin skin, as it will have more flesh. Melons with thick skin usually contain less pulp.
