Claim that CNN survey shows Imran Khan’s popularity at 90% is false

Social media users appeared to believe a claim that a recent poll conducted by CNN in Pakistan found the popularity of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan at 90%.

The claim is false.

Claim

On April 17, a user on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote: “Make this tweet viral: According to a recent survey by CNN, Imran Khan’s popularity has reached 90%.”

The post included a graphic featuring CNN’s logo and the text: “The popularity of Imran Khan soars to 90% in the latest survey.”

At the time of writing, the post had been viewed over 86,000 times, reposted more than 5,300 times, and liked over 11,000 times.

Similar claims were also shared on X, TikTok, and Facebook.

Fact

CNN, the US-based media outlet, has not conducted any such poll related to Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan’s popularity in Pakistan.

In a written response, CNN confirmed to Geo Fact Check that it has not carried out the survey mentioned in the viral posts.

Additionally, there is no evidence of such a poll on CNN’s website or its official social media accounts or on any online platform.

Verdict: The American news organisation has not conducted any survey showing Imran Khan’s popularity at 90%.
